ENERGY STAR National Building Competition: 2014 wrap-up report on trends and best practices

In 2014, EPA hosted the ENERGY STAR® National Building Competition: Battle of the Buildings, but with a twist. For the first time, teams competed to slim their energy and water “wastelines.” More than 100 teams and 5,500 buildings across the nation competed to become the nation’s biggest loser. Altogether, competitors saved a combined total of more than 2 billion kBtus of energy, more than 250 million gallons of water, and an estimated $50 million on utility bills. And more than 100 buildings demonstrated energy or water use savings of 20 percent or greater.
