ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Web Services

Portfolio Manager Banner

EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager is an online tool that your customers can use to measure and track energy and water consumption, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. It can also be incorporated into your energy efficiency programs through comprehensive whole-building solutions. Below are some resources that can help educate your customers on the importance of benchmarking, a quick start guide, and more:

As energy benchmarking becomes standard practice in the commercial building industry, owners and managers of buildings are seeking to simplify the process of obtaining utility data. More and more utilities are stepping up to assist owners and operators by making aggregate whole-building data readily available for upload into their Portfolio Manager accounts via web services.

Third parties, including energy service companies, utilities, and regional efficiency programs, can use web services to send energy consumption and/or building characteristic data to Portfolio Manager and receive ENERGY STAR scores, weather normalized energy use intensity (EUI) benchmarks, and carbon emissions estimates in return.

The result: customers spend less time gathering data and more time working on saving energy; and utilities are better able to understand the energy performance of their customers’ buildings, allowing for more targeted identification of energy savings opportunities. To learn more about how to implement web services, visit the Portfolio Manager Exchanging Data: Resources to Help You Get Started page.

Using the Works with Portfolio Manager Badge

Works with Portfolio Manager badgesRegistered ENERGY STAR Web Services Providers can display the Works with Portfolio Manager badge. This badge is designed to increase customer confidence that your product integrates seamlessly with Portfolio Manager, which will help further distinguish you from competitors.

Once you have thoroughly tested your product, you can register and submit your product for approval within Portfolio Manager. EPA will determine if your product satisfies the eligibility requirements in the ENERGY STAR Web Service Provider Guidelines. Once your product is approved, you can use the Works with Portfolio Manager badge in accordance with the usage guidelines (PDF, 252 KB).

Utilities Providing Energy Data Using Portfolio Manager Web Services

Utilities leading the way in data access are delivering aggregate whole-building consumption data, as opposed to meter-by-meter data and pushing energy consumption data directly into Portfolio Manager property record(s) using the Portfolio Manager web services Application Programming Interface (API).

ENERGY STAR Data Access Network

The ENERGY STAR Data Access Network aims to connect energy utilities, state and local governments, and others who are interested in providing or obtaining whole-building energy consumption data.
