As energy benchmarking becomes standard practice in the commercial building industry, owners and managers of buildings are seeking to simplify the process of obtaining utility data. More and more utilities are stepping up to assist owners and operators by making aggregate whole-building data readily available for upload into their Portfolio Manager accounts via web services.
Third parties, including energy service companies, utilities, and regional efficiency programs, can use web services to send energy consumption and/or building characteristic data to Portfolio Manager and receive ENERGY STAR scores, weather normalized energy use intensity (EUI) benchmarks, and carbon emissions estimates in return.
The result: customers spend less time gathering data and more time working on saving energy; and utilities are better able to understand the energy performance of their customers’ buildings, allowing for more targeted identification of energy savings opportunities.
