Aim for 80 Design Challenge

Aim for 80 Design Challenge banner

What is Aim for 80?

Aim for 80 is a challenge from the EPA to architecture and engineering (A/E) firms and building owners to demonstrate superior energy efficiency in their U.S. commercial new construction and major renovation projects. Projects that achieve an ENERGY STAR score of 80 or higher receive EPA’s Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR as well as special recognition in the Aim for 80 Gallery!

Who can participate in Aim for 80?

A/E Firms and their Building Owner Clients

A/E firms can participate by submitting any eligible projects that meet criteria for Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR recognition to the EPA. Building owners can participate by promoting their success and intent to operate the new building to meet energy goals.

See Aim for 80 Resources to get started!

Organizations, Associations, and Governments

These entities can promote and challenge their members and affiliates who are responsible for commercial new construction activities to participate in Aim for 80.

This is also an opportunity to include ENERGY STAR metrics in commercial new construction requirements by specifying an ENERGY STAR score of 80 or higher.

Everyone can help us get the word out by amplifying Aim for 80 on websites, social media, and newsletters, etc.

See Aim for 80 Resources and Gallery pages for more information.

Change to Eligibility Criteria

In March 2024, the EPA requested comments from the public on a proposed change to the eligibility criteria for Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR recognition. For more information, see Change to Eligibility Criteria for Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR Recognition.
