Achieve Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR
Commercial building designs that have achieved Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR are projected to perform among the top 25 percent of similar buildings, once built. If your design project has achieved this recognition, start promoting it now to potential tenants, clients, lenders, and stakeholders.
Ideas for promoting your Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR project
- Include the Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR logo on project plans, construction site signage, and marketing materials used to promote the project.
- Issue a press release announcing that you’ve achieved Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR recognition and distribute it to local media. (See sample press release.)
- Hold an organization-wide employee meeting or student assembly and present a certificate to an official of your organization. Take photos for your newsletter, and also send a photo with caption to the local newspaper.
- Make and distribute your own certificates of recognition/ appreciation/ participation to organizations or individuals who contributed time and effort to achieving this recognition.
- Make plans to announce that your project has achieved Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR at a scheduled meeting where press typically will be in attendance. (For example, an announcement of a K-12 school project achieving this recognition could take place at a District School Board meeting.)
- Write a letter celebrating your achievement to your mayor, councilmember, Chamber of Commerce, Board of Education, governor, congressperson or senator, or other official representatives for your organization. Encourage them to challenge other organizations like yours to follow your lead.
- Invite local government officials, regional EPA officials, and members of the press to tour the construction site along with your top company or organization officials.
- Present a certificate of achievement to organizational officials.
- Promote your achievement through your organization’s social media channels — post your announcement on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
