Office Properties Income Trust is a real estate investment firm. Office Properties Income Trust has maintained an ongoing dedication to improving its energy management program, leveraging ENERGY STAR® tools and resources in unique ways to communicate throughout its organization. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Achieving ENERGY STAR certification for 43 buildings.
  • Expanding on its active, real-time data capture program to improve energy and water savings at 49 buildings, totaling 10 million square feet.
  • Enhancing tracking in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager®, which helped to achieve a 21% reduction in energy use intensity, a 6% reduction in water use, and increased waste diversion to recycling to 43%.
  • Developing a Power BI dashboard through its property manager to share ENERGY STAR certification and ENERGY STAR score trends that is accessible to leadership.
  • Hosting its annual competition focused on energy efficiency best practices. In 2023, the competition took the form of a Reduce Runtime Challenge, which focused on reducing HVAC equipment runtimes in areas where tenants have not yet fully returned post-COVID and generated $37,000 in annual energy savings through schedule optimizations.
  • Contributing to a more reliable electric grid by approving funding for solar photovoltaic projects at 43 sites, totaling an estimated 7.9 MW, and enrolled 32 buildings in demand response programs with a projected reduction in power consumption of 2.0 MW.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
