Marathon Petroleum Corporation manufactures and markets renewable and petroleum fuels and provides energy logistics services. The company promoted certification of U.S. refineries with ENERGY STAR® to the oil refining industry, resulting in six additional refineries being certified in 2023. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

• Leading the sharing of best energy management practices among refiners participating in the ENERGY STAR Refining Focus.
• Achieving ENERGY STAR certification for five refineries among its 13 benchmarked plants.
• Completing a variety of investments and projects, including steam trap repair at a refinery for $1.6 million in 2023 savings, insulation reinforcement at another refinery for a projected savings of $1.3 million, implementation of voluntary leak detection and repair programs for compressor stations, identification of energy projects through a “digital twin” approach, and new requirements for flare optimization for steam and assist-gas consumption.
• Celebrating the certifications of two refineries through two ENERGY STAR Industrial Showcases held at the refineries.
