Kenton County School District (KCSD) is a school district in Kentucky. KCSD uses ENERGY STAR® to demonstrate energy performance and fiscal responsibility to district leadership, students, and the community. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Achieving ENERGY STAR certification at 10 schools and maintaining a district average ENERGY STAR score of more than 81.
  • Saving more than $2.1 million in energy costs in 2023, equivalent to 42 teaching positions, and reducing energy and energy costs by 47% since 2005.
  • Implementing energy efficiency upgrades, including high-efficiency geothermal heat pumps and LED lighting in several schools.
  • Maintaining solar arrays at two schools in the district.
  • Involving students and teachers in energy saving practices, such as a Shutdown with ENERGY STAR program to save energy over holiday breaks, and the E=WISE student energy team, which involves students in energy efficiency and building assessment activities, as well as communicating the results of schoolwide efforts.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
