JCPenney is a clothing and home retail store. JCPenney has maintained a longstanding commitment to ENERGY STAR® and energy efficiency, including implementing several initiatives to support its decarbonization program. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Reducing its source energy use intensity by 3.1% across 613 stores and avoiding more than $6.6 million in energy costs.
  • Employing advanced energy management strategies, including the largest lighting retrofit in its history, a $14 million investment across 255 stores.
  • Benchmarking more than 600 stores and increasing its portfolio-wide average ENERGY STAR score by 2% to 84.
  • Achieving ENERGY STAR certification for nine stores, representing 1.4 million square feet of space.
  • Re-establishing its high school intern energy management program at 10 stores.
  • Promoting operational and behavior-based operational approaches to saving energy, such as its Shutdown with ENERGY STAR program, to store leadership, employees, and local school districts through emails, webinars, performance updates, and corporate sustainability reports.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
