Hines has maintained its strong corporate commitment to sustainability, continuing use of ENERGY STAR® tools and resources to promote energy efficiency with its stakeholders and setting portfolio-wide goals for carbon reduction. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Achieving ENERGY STAR certification for 128 properties.
  • Increasing its portfolio average ENERGY STAR score from 79 in 2022 to 81 in 2023.
  • Introducing real-time carbon monitoring, which allows building operations to monitor the local grid emissions in real time and make operational decisions to reduce emissions from its properties.
  • Collaborating with leading climate experts and commercial real estate experts to create its internal Operational Carbon Guide, which introduces the principles and processes that will enable its teams to execute asset-specific decarbonization plans in response to climate and transition risk.
  • Establishing an interim net zero operational target of 42% reduction by 2030.
  • Publishing its 12th annual sustainability report, which highlights the firm’s partnership with ENERGY STAR.
