Food Lion is a retail grocery store chain. Food Lion continued to grow its energy management and decarbonization program, leveraging ENERGY STAR® resources to provide leadership across the retail industry. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Investing more than $26 million to upgrade 237 stores with LED lighting, for a total of 1,032 LED upgrades across 93% of its stores.
  • Benchmarking the energy use of more than 1,000 stores in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager® and increasing the average ENERGY STAR score by 3% to 72.
  • Educating associates, management, and customers through social media, in-store displays, signage, and media releases about energy management practices and achievements.
  • Setting a goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions across all operations by 2040 (Scope 1 and Scope 2) and to become net zero across all brands’ supply chains, products, and services no later than 2050 (Scope 3), in accordance with the Science Based Targets initiative’s Net Zero Standard requirements.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
