The sponsors of Energize Connecticut, including United Illuminating (“UI”), Southern Connecticut Gas (“SCG”) and Connecticut Natural Gas (“CNG”) subsidiaries of AVANGRID Inc., and Eversource, are electric and gas utilities in Connecticut. The sponsors leveraged ENERGY STAR® criteria and tools across their program portfolio to help customers in the commercial, industrial, and residential sectors manage energy use and save money on utility bills. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Providing a data service for customers to receive and update their energy usage in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager®. Facilitating 16 Treasure Hunts for commercial and industrial customers, utilizing ENERGY STAR forms, templates, and processes.
  • Developing partnerships with 95% of the state’s distributors that sell ENERGY STAR certified electric and gas heating, cooling, and water heating equipment, resulting in incentives for more than 11,000 products, 85% of which use heat pump technology. Improving program design by aligning requirements with the ENERGY STAR cold climate air-source heat pump specification, simplifying midstream heat pump incentives, and introducing an additional incentive for air-source heat pumps purchased through its installer network.
  • Providing commercial customers with multiple pathways to incentives on a wide array of ENERGY STAR certified products, including food service, heating and cooling, water heating, and laboratory equipment. Annual savings from 2023 food service equipment installations alone are projected to save customers more than 1,000 MWh and nearly 150,000 therms.
  • Providing incentives that lead to the construction of more than 400 ENERGY STAR certified homes and apartments, and including a pathway and additional incentives for the construction of efficient electric homes.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
