Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative -SMECO

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) is a customer-owned electric cooperative. Through community awareness and marketing campaigns, SMECO has promoted ENERGY STAR® across the residential home and consumer products sectors to help its customer-members save energy. Key 2022 accomplishments include:

•  Delivering more than 72,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity savings across its ENERGY STAR programs, an increase of 29% compared to 2021.
•  Providing incentives for more than 600 ENERGY STAR certified homes and nearly 500 ENERGY STAR smart thermostats.
•  Collaborating with energy rating company partners to increase awareness of the HVAC 310 Grading Standard to capture additional energy savings.
•  Emphasizing multiple rebate channels to better reach customers where they shop, and incentivizing larger appliances, including room air conditioners, clothes washers, clothes dryers, freezers, and refrigerators, through the ENERGY STAR Retail Products Platform. 
•  Providing rebates for consumers on ENERGY STAR certified heat pump water heaters through local distributors, where customers receive a verified instant coupon that can be used for online or in-store purchases, or apply for a rebate post-purchase.
