Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) is a school district in Virginia. LCPS has a long-standing commitment to reducing costs and demonstrating good stewardship of public resources while promoting energy efficiency through ENERGY STAR. Key 2022 accomplishments include:

  • Saving more than $7.2 million in utility costs in 2022 and over $113 million over the past 30 years, as well as a cumulative reduction of more than 490,000 metric tons of CO2 over the past 30 years.
  • Achieving recognition as an ENERGY STAR Certification Nation Premier Member by earning the ENERGY STAR for 26 schools in 2022.
  • Selecting 28 buildings to incorporate 15 different energy conservation measures including building automation systems, solar photovoltaic arrays, LED lighting retrofits and replacements, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) improvements.
  •  Awarded best project in the 2022 ENERGY STAR Decarbonize Your Design Challenge for exemplifying excellence in design for energy efficiency and CO2 reductions at Elaine E. Thompson Elementary School. 
In 2020 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
