Federal Agencies Can Use Portfolio Manager to Track Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Sustainability Goals

A new Executive Order (PDF, 87KB)  issued by President Obama last fall requires Federal agencies to 1) set goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the energy use of their buildings and 2) have 15 percent of each agency's buildings meet the Federal Government's Guiding Principles for High Performance and Sustainable Buildings (PDF, 191KB) by 2015. EPA's Portfolio Manager is a helpful tool for Federal agencies to track progress in both of these areas. Through Portfolio Manager, users can now measure and track greenhouse gas emissions related to their buildings' energy use. Plus, through a partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA) and the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), EPA has recently incorporated the Federal High Performance Sustainable Buildings Checklist into Portfolio Manager so agencies can also assess whether their buildings meet the sustainability goal.
