Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is a school district in Virginia. FCPS uses ENERGY STAR® to engage students, conserve energy, and protect the environment, and as a catalyst for stewardship throughout FCPS schools and the community. Key 2022 accomplishments include:
- Receiving recognition as an ENERGY STAR Certification Nation Executive Member by earning the ENERGY STAR for 61 schools in 2022.
- Achieving energy savings greater than 21% and $65 million since 2014 and more than $10 million in annual energy costs, as well as avoiding more than 33,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
- Winning the “Best Project in the Major Renovation” category of the ENERGY STAR Decarbonize Your Design Challenge.
- Maintaining the FCPS Energy Education Team, which strives to reduce district energy use and cost without negatively impacting health and safety, the educational environment, or productivity.
- Improving both indoor air quality and energy efficiency through heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) projects.
- Using a dashboard to educate students, staff, parents, and the community about ENERGY STAR, including ENERGY STAR scores.
