ENERGY STAR Awareness Reaches All-Time High
According to the latest annual household survey conducted by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE), 89 percent of consumers recognize the ENERGY STAR label, and the majority of consumers have a high understanding of the message behind the label. An important indication of loyalty to the label as a brand, 75 percent of those who purchased a product or home that had earned the label would recommend ENERGY STAR to a friend.
Analysis of the survey data reveal the impact the ENERGY STAR label has on the purchasing decisions of the consumers surveyed. Of those who recognize the label, 77 percent report that the label is very or somewhat significant in their purchase. Additionally, about 45 percent of surveyed households report knowingly purchasing an ENERGY STAR certified product or home in the 12 months prior to the survey.
Conducted during the fall of 2014, this was the 15th national survey for consumer awareness of ENERGY STAR. As in prior years, consumers in the 57 largest media markets were asked if they recognized the ENERGY STAR label, what they thought it meant and, for those that purchased an ENERGY STAR certified product or home, the influence the label had on their purchasing decision. ENERGY STAR is the simple choice for energy efficiency. For more than 20 years, people across America have looked to EPA’s ENERGY STAR program for guidance on how to save energy, save money, and protect the environment. Behind each blue label is a product, building, or home that is independently certified to use less energy and cause fewer of the emissions that contribute to climate change. Today, ENERGY STAR is the most widely recognized symbol for energy efficiency in the world, helping families and businesses save $300 billion on utility bills, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by two billion metric tons since 1992.
