CalPortland Company is a producer of cement, concrete, aggregates, and asphalt pavement. The company demonstrated leadership by ensuring its newly acquired cement plants were evaluated for energy, production, and environmental improvement potential and that plant improvement plans are implemented. Key 2022 accomplishments include:

•  Reducing energy intensity over the past year across the company, despite production disruptions and acquisitions; since 2003, the company has achieved a 17.5% reduction in energy intensity.
•  Achieving the tenth consecutive year of ENERGY STAR® certification for the Rillito cement plant’s energy performance.
•  Mentoring ENERGY STAR industrial partners and energy managers in need of assistance with creating stronger energy management programs.
•  Instituting a study of the company’s opportunities for reducing carbon dioxide emissions from its operations.
•  Completing substantial plant improvements, including the Oro Grande Cement Plant kiln fan project, which replaced the variable frequency drive, resulting in 18% energy efficiency improvement, and the Mojave Cement Plant kiln exhaust filtration baghouse upgrade, which resulted in a fan efficiency improvement of 40-50%.
•  Continuing to support the Portland Cement Association’s Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality, which is committed to reaching carbon neutrality throughout the cement-concrete-construction value chain by 2050.
