BOMA International is a trade association for commercial real estate professionals. BOMA maintained its leadership in promoting ENERGY STAR® resources to the real estate industry and developed new initiatives to help members meet sustainability objectives and decarbonization goals. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Continuing to lead the industry in encouraging energy, water, and waste benchmarking, promoting ENERGY STAR resources to the real estate industry, and championing ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager® as its platform for market transformation initiatives.
  • Launching a challenge that directs users to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and calls on properties to commit to benchmarking their emissions.
  • Hosting a symposium focused on decarbonization, held in Washington, D.C., in March. The event featured sessions led by top policymakers and experts from throughout the private and public sectors and included topics on renewable energy, financing, data tracking, and policy and legislation, as well as hosting ENERGY STAR staff at two of the panel sessions.
  • Initiating a project exploring state legislation that would allow property owners to access whole-building utility data.
  • Prominently featuring and promoting ENERGY STAR in speeches, vlogs, BOMA Magazine, e-newsletters, webinars, and social media, reaching tens of thousands of commercial real estate practitioners.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
