Appalachian Power Company (APCo) is an electric utility in Virginia and West Virginia. To increase awareness of ENERGY STAR® products and its programs, APCo promoted energy efficiency as a lifestyle and added new offerings to serve low- and moderate-income customers. Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Leveraging ENERGY STAR promotions, including ENERGY STAR Day and Flip Your Fridge, and using ENERGY STAR resources to promote air purifiers, dehumidifiers, appliances, smart thermostats, and electric vehicle chargers, resulting in customer incentives for more than 3,200 certified appliances.
  • Serving 940 homes in West Virginia and Virginia through its low-income weatherization programs, saving more than 2 million kWh.
  • Updating its public education programs with information on the benefits of the six measures included in the ENERGY STAR Home Upgrade.
  • Offering two efficient electrification programs in its West Virginia service territory, encouraging customers to install ENERGY STAR certified Level II electric vehicle chargers and educating customers who use unregulated fuels to switch to heat pumps.
In 2020 ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans avoid more than $40 Billion in energy costs
