AbbVie is a global biopharmaceutical company. In 2023, AbbVie achieved an 8% energy intensity reduction and cut absolute energy use by 9% at U.S. operations by leveraging ENERGY STAR® tools and resources to strengthen its energy program. Key 2023 accomplishments include:
- Leveraging the company’s energy efficiency and decarbonization capital fund program to provide for 35 energy projects that will avoid $4,921,000 in annual energy costs.
- Earning ENERGY STAR certification for four pharmaceutical manufacturing sites.
- Receiving approval of the company’s Science Based Targets initiative goals, which are an important part of AbbVie’s decarbonization strategy. AbbVie has already achieved a 15.6% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
- Sharing energy management expertise through the ENERGY STAR Focus on Energy Efficiency in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and the industrial partnership via multiple presentations and participation in ENERGY STAR meetings.
- Conducting 23 ENERGY STAR Treasure Hunts in North America, Europe, and Asia, with 746 opportunities identified. Treasure Hunt findings form the basis of AbbVie’s long-range plans for manufacturing sites.
