Background

With the growing concern about energy prices and global warming, along with an increased focus on green buildings and sustainable practices, building owners and managers continue to be concerned about energy consumption and are looking for cost-effective energy management strategies. Over 550 organizations have accepted the ENERGY STAR Challenge to improve the efficiency of buildings by at least 10 percent.

The ENERGY STAR program can assist in improving building energy and financial performance while distinguishing your organization as an environmental leader. ENERGY STAR provides strategies, tools, professional assistance, and recognition opportunities to help meet your goals.

EPA has awarded the prestigious ENERGY STAR to more than 4,000 commercial and institutional buildings nationwide for their energy management practices and focus on energy efficiency. These buildings represent more than 740 million square feet, save an estimated $600 million annually in lower energy bills, and prevent almost 11 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions, equal to emissions from almost 900,000 vehicles.
