ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year

As the world's largest office products retailer, Staples, Inc. has annual sales of $25 billion and employs 90,000 associates across locations in 27 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Staples is receiving ENERGY STAR recognition for setting ambitious energy management goals and using ENERGY STAR tools and resources to achieve them. Key 2011 accomplishments include:

 

         Earning the ENERGY STAR for more than 250 facilities in 2011; this represents more than half of its corporate goal of 500 ENERGY STAR certified facilities by December 2012. Staples also achieved Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR recognition for six new construction building designs in 2011.

         Becoming the first retailer to earn recognition as an ENERGY STAR Leader in 2011 for improving its energy efficiency by more than 10 percent across its portfolio of buildings.

         Increasing its average ENERGY STAR score from 61 in 2010 to 63 in 2011, which represents $3.8 million per year in energy cost savings.

         Participating in EPA's 2011 ENERGY STAR National Building Competition and reducing energy use by more than 30 percent at its Roswell, GA, store during the course of the competition.

         Educating employees, customers, and children on the importance of saving energy with ENERGY STAR by featuring Wattson, a six-foot-tall CFL character, at events and in communication materials, as well as highlighting ENERGY STAR in webinars, videos, presentations, posters, and on the companys website.

         Offering more than 700 ENERGY STAR qualified products online and in-store throughout the United States.
