5: Implement Action Plan

Informed employees reduce energy consumption and contribute ideas

At Saint-Gobain, an important best practice is for the Corporate Energy Manager to establish relationships with the facility employees in order to get the sites involved with the corporation's energy program.  Therefore, each year, the Saint-Gobain Energy Manager visits several facilities to increase awareness concerning energy efficiency and to motivate employees in reducing their usage. For example, in 2008, the Energy Manager visited 32 different sites to assist them in becoming more energy-efficient. The goal of these visits is for employees to gain a better understanding of various processes and encourage sharing of ideas for improvement, especially in areas that use similar devices to manufacture different products.  These visits build enthusiasm around the energy program, build the energy network, and promote the positive aspects of team work across the business units.
