Global Commitment

Intertape Polymer Group has established an organizational structure to ensure that improvements in energy efficiency are achieved and maintained throughout the organization, including international company locations.  The structure includes the Corporate Energy Team Leader, the Corporate Energy Team, the Local Energy Teams, an Energy Policy, and Team Charters. 

1.1: Appoint an Energy Director

Corporate Energy Team Leader

Intertape Polymer Group's established Corporate Energy Team Leader is responsible to ensure that the company is achieving its energy management goals.  This leader is empowered by senior management to coordinate the activities that lead to continuous improvement.

1.2: Establish an Energy Team

Corporate Energy Team and Local Energy Teams

Intertape Polymer Group's Corporate Energy Team is responsible to ensure that best practices in energy management are shared throughout the organization.  The team establishes corporate goals and works towards achieving them.  This team is comprised of the team leaders from the individual plants who have developed a team charter to help maintain a focus on the company's energy related goals.  The team meets monthly through teleconferences and annually at the corporate Energy Summit.  Furthermore, Intertape has established a local energy team at each of its facilities.  The local teams are cross-functional teams comprised of operations managers, department managers, engineers, accountants, and purchasing managers.  The objective of the local teams is to achieve the energy reduction goals outlined by the Corporate Energy Team and senior management.  Each local team develops its own charter to help maintain a focus on it energy related goals.

1.3: Institute an Energy Policy

Intertape Polymer Group has created an energy policy to highlight the company's commitment to continuous improvement in energy efficiency.  The company has adopted ENERGY STAR's Guidelines for Energy Management to help ensure continuous improvement in energy management.

5.3: Build Capacity

Employee Training

Intertape Polymer Group seeks to build the capacity of its employees to be successful in implementing energy reduction projects.  The company provides broad training in technology and best practices to its employees.  Employees attend regular seminars locally and at the annual company's Energy Summit.  An example of training activities that are provided involve HVAC and process heating and cooling systems.  Additionally, the training program includes certification opportunities in the field of energy management.

7.2: External Recognition

External Recognition Provides Motivation

Intertape Polymer Group has benefitted greatly from its promotion of and partnership with ENERGY STAR.  Several of Intertape's facilities have participated in- and achieved ENERGY STAR's Challenge for Industry by reducing their energy intensity by 10% or more within 5 years or less.  This recognition provided to Intertape's plants has motivated them to continue to improve their energy management programs and reduce energy usage.  Employees at each plant are more excited about reducing energy since they are recognized for their efforts.
