Enhancing Executive Level Support for Continuous Improvement
Hanesbrands Inc.'s commitment to energy management has expanded to include an additional level of executive leadership. This enhancement includes a monthly meeting with the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the Senior VP, Global Operations and the Director of Energy Management to review specific energy management initiatives. These meetings are designed to provide guidance to the Director of Energy Management who provides monthly reports on strategy, efficiency improvements, and cost reductions. This new process, along with ongoing Sustainability Steering Committee meetings, provides an enhanced level of executive support to assure the energy management program remains focused.
Vendor Preferred Program
Hanesbrands Inc. (HBI) recognizes that an effective energy management program must permeate through the entire supply chain network. Therefore, the company has taken steps to significantly expand its energy management program to all stakeholders. As a result, HBI has established incentives to promote participation among the company's suppliers in energy conservation and ENERGY STAR, and has created a preferred vendor list to give purchasing preference to vendors that score well in multiple business categories, with energy management as one of the categories. In addition, HBI conducts supplier outreach energy workshops to introduce key suppliers to the company's strategic initiative, and to further influence suppliers to have an effective energy management strategy. The supplier energy management programs of the vendors are rated using ENERGY STAR's Assessment Matrix and included in HBI's preferred vendor program.
Identifying Opportunities through Progress Reports
At Hanesbrands Inc.'s (HBI) annual Global Supply Chain leadership meeting, plant managers are asked to report progress for each project identified during Treasure Hunt events. Additionally, the Chief Supply Chain Officer requires each regional VP to regularly report the status of the number of projects and savings achieved. This ongoing executive focus provides the leadership to assure HBI "cashes the check" as well as identify significant additional opportunities to give the executive team confidence to set new realistic long range goals.
Aligning Internal Recognition Program with ENERGY STAR
Hanesbrands Inc. (HBI) expands its use of ENERGY STAR resources. One example is HBI leveraging ENERGY STAR's Challenge for Industry. The Global Supply Chain leadership called for all plant managers to take the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry which complements HBI's President's Energy Efficiency Award. HBI has set an internal prerequisite that plants applying for recognition from ENERGY STAR must first achieve HBI's internal energy award which requires evidence of participation and achievement of corporate energy initiatives. The recognition offered by these two programs has motivated HBI locations to set internal goals to achieve the recognition. The President's Energy Efficiency award and the Challenge for Industry are aligned with HBI's corporate goals.
