Jurupa Unified School District has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leader for improving energy efficiency by more than 20 percent compared to a 2009 baseline and as a Top Performer for achieving an average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 77 across its portfolio of buildings. Building on previous cost-saving measures, the district implemented a comprehensive energy management program and partnered with Energy Education in 2010 to create a full-time energy management position fully funded by cost savings. In addition to a successful people-based conservation effort, the district is currently partnering with Chevron Energy Solutions Company to update all campus facilities with improved high efficiency lighting, air conditioning, and solar generation capacity at several campuses and the District Office. The district has saved more than $1,000,000 in utility costs and prevented the emissions of more than 1,700 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 44,500 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years. The district remains committed to energy conservation efforts and continues to practice responsible stewardship of its resources.
