Meriwether County School System, located in west-central Georgia, educates approximately 3,000 students and encompasses more than 709,000 square feet of space. The district prides itself on doing whatever it takes for all students to aim high, achieve, graduate, and succeed. In 2008, Meriwether partnered with Energy Education and began implementing the companys people-driven energy management process. The successful partnership has led to significantly reduced energy consumption and has instilled a sustainable energy ethic throughout Meriwether Countys schools. The district became a partner of the ENERGY STAR program in 2011.

 

Meriwether County School System has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leader for improving its energy efficiency by more than 20 percent compared to a 2008 baseline. The district has also been recognized as a Top Performer for achieving an average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 82 across its portfolio of buildings. Since December 2008, the district has realized more than $878,400 in energy savings. The district has prevented the emissions of more than 1,300 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 33,400 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years. Staff members, faculty, and students within the Meriwether County School System have implemented hundreds of improvements in energy consumption habits.
