Park Hill School District, located in Kansas City, Missouri, aims to build successful futures for its students everyday. The district educates more than 10,000 students in buildings encompassing more than 1,500,000 square feet of space. In 2009, in an effort to maintain responsible spending of its taxpayer dollars and to be a good steward of the environment, Park Hill School District formed a partnership with Energy Education. With that partnership, the district has taken a proactive approach to lowering utility costs and reducing greenhouse emissions. The district partnered with ENERGY STAR in 2010.

 

Park Hill School District has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leader for improving energy efficiency by more than 20 percent compared to a 2009 baseline. Since 2009, the district has prevented the emissions of more than 6,230 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 159,800 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years. Efficiency measures implemented include regular building audits on all facilities, maintaining a utility database using EnergyCAP software, and daily communication with maintenance and custodial staff members on building needs and use.
