Sparta Area School District is located Sparta, Wisconsin, which is a small city in the southwest corner of the state. The District's schools consist of more than 750,000 square feet of space and serve more than 2,600 students. The mission of Sparta Area School District is to ensure that all students receive a high-quality educational experience and skills relevant to the 21st century. The strength of the district is its staff members, who are dedicated to providing the best possible learning environment for students. Environmental sustainability plays an important part throughout our district's curriculum. The District recycles paper, plastic, and aluminum in each of its buildings. In 2008, Sparta Area School District teamed up with Energy Education in order to become more energy efficient. This partnership allows the District to conserve energy while providing a safe and comfortable learning environment.
Sparta Area School District has been recognized as an ENERGY STAR Leader for increasing energy efficiency by more than 30 percent compared to a 2007 baseline and as a Top Performer for achieving an average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 94 across its portfolio of buildings. In 2010, Sparta Area School District earned ENERGY STAR certification in each of its schools. The ENERGY STAR is displayed proudly in every building. Since its energy conservation program began, the district has saved over $880,000. Sparta Area School District has prevented the emissions of more than 1,900 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 49,800 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years.
