Ferndale School District has earned recognition as an ENERGY STAR Leader for improving its district-wide energy efficiency by more than 10 percent. The district is also being recognized as a Top Performer for achieving an average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 77 across its portfolio of buildings. Staff members, faculty, and students at Ferndale School District have implemented hundreds of improvements in energy consumption habits. The district's energy conservation efforts have been led by an energy education specialist with ongoing on-site training and oversight from engineers. Since 2008, Ferndale School District's administrators have witnessed more than $792,900 in utility cost savings by implementing and enforcing simple, sustainable behavioral changes. The district has prevented the emissions of more than 765 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 19,600 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years.
