Glendale Unified School District, located in southern California, educates approximately 25,000 students across 33 schools. The district's mission is to provide quality teaching, ensuring that all students become responsible citizens who possess the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world. In early 2007 the district retained Energy Education, Inc., and began implementing the company's "Transformational Energy Management" process. The successful partnership has led to increased energy efficiency and has instilled a sustainable energy ethic throughout the district's schools.

Glendale Unified School District has been recognized as an ENERGY STAR Leaders Top Performer for achieving a portfolio-wide average energy performance score of 95 out of 100. In the 2009-2010 school year the district avoided more than $1.4 million in energy costs.  In the last year alone the district has avoided more than 1,500 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent of planting more than 350 acres of trees. Staff, faculty, and students at Glendale Unified School District have implemented hundreds of improvements in energy use habits. Their energy efficiency efforts have been led by the district's energy education specialist with ongoing on-site training and oversight from Energy Education, Inc.

Glendale Unified School District joined the ENERGY STAR program in 2008.
