More than 4,500 students are educated in Wyoming County School's 14 buildings.  The district owns more than 800,000 square feet of conditioned space and operates on a 180-day schedule that begins in late August and ends in early June. The mission of the Wyoming County Board of Education, in partnership with families and the community, is to educate all students to high academic standards within a safe, stimulating environment and develop lifelong learners who value themselves and others, contribute to their community, and succeed in a changing world. The Wyoming County Board of Education believes it is its responsibility to insure that every effort is made to conserve energy and natural resources while exercising sound financial management. The implementation of this policy is the joint responsibility of the board members, administrators, teachers, students and support personnel and its success is based on cooperation at all levels. Public education can provide leadership in developing a realistic energy ethic and awareness of energy needs and costs. The ENERGY STAR program is a good way to help achieve these goals and keep the public apprised of the districts efforts to become more energy efficient.

Wyoming County Schools has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leaders Top Performer for achieving an average portfolio rating of 87.  The district implemented a revamped energy management program in 2004.  Using EPA's Portfolio Manager tool has helped the district to track its portfolio and earn the ENERGY STAR for eight of its facilities, a distinction that has inspired a friendly competition between school administrators. Wyoming County Schools has achieved these results with efficient upgrades like more efficient lighting and boilers. The district also has installed motion detectors on all through-the-wall heat pumps, vend misers on all vending machines, UV lights on the condensing coils and internet accessible controls for every facility.
