Queen Anne's County Public Schools was awarded ENERGY STAR Leaders Top Performer recognition in 2009 for achieving a portfolio-wide energy performance rating of 85. The district has previously been recognized for improving its energy efficiency by 20 percent. Additionally, the district was the first in the state of Maryland to have an ENERGY STAR labeled school and currently has ten labeled buildings in its portfolio. These accomplishments correspond to nearly $1,700,000 in avoided energy costs since May 2005. The school system has partnered with Energy Education Inc. to implement a people-driven energy management program that has led to a significant increase in energy efficiency over the last four years, including simple behavioral measures like turning off lights and computers when not in use and educating students and staff about the importance of saving energy.
