Fremont, Michigan
Fremont Public Schools has earned ENERGY STAR Top Performer Leaders recognition for achieving a portfolio-wide energy performance rating of 95. With the help of the ENERGY STAR program, the district's efficiency efforts have allowed the district to redirect cost savings back to the classroom. Fremont Public Schools retained Energy Education, Inc. to train the district energy manager, as well as to establish energy guidelines for all building occupants. Behavioral changes like unplugging appliances and turning off lights and computers when not in use have made a big difference across the districts portfolio. Custodians and facility management practice preventive maintenance and periodic retrofits and upgrades, and a computerized energy management system helps regulate overall operations of the buildings. Motion sensors in hallways and bathrooms, retrofitted lights, high-efficiency boilers and a heat recovery system for the pool have all contributed to Fremont Public Schools success.
