The National Register of Historic Places describes the Coeur d'Alene Federal Building as, "one of the finest Federal buildings constructed in Idaho." The building, constructed in 1927, is admired for its architectural style, as well as its overall building efficiency.
The four-story structure, which houses offices of the General Services Administration, has reduced its overall energy consumption by approximately 35 percent since 1985 by implementing efficiency upgrades to the building. These upgrades include the installation of an Energy Management System (EMS), electronic ballasts, and an efficient HVAC system. The building recently underwent an overall building tune-up, during which fan systems were upgraded and load reduction strategies were implemented.
