Equinix International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers are constructed to the most rigid standards. Having efficient infrastructure is a big factor in our business plan. Every year we make significant investments to make existing sites more efficient and to ensure new sites are built efficient from day one. The Equinix SV5 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) is a state of the art, LEED certified, ENERGY STAR certified data center. SV5 is a greenfield building and was designed with long-term operational efficiency in mind.
The mechanical cooling system is a proprietary refrigeration system that allows Equinix to perform optimally on the hottest of days, and even better in the mild climate that characterizes the majority of days in the area. The air is delivered via overhead ducts directly to dedicated cold aisles throughout the facility. By employing hot/cold aisle configuration throughout the data center's floor space, additional efficiency is gained across the facility.
The electrical system is composed of high-efficiency electrical equipment and a high-efficiency electrical distribution layout to gain additional system efficiencies. While the electrical system savings are small compared to the mechanical, when dealing with significant amounts of continuous power demand, every bit helps.
