With a proactive approach to environmental stawardship, 161 North Clark has been changing the way its customers, employees, and service providers think about the environment and the world in which we work and live. Through a thoughtful focus on energy management, water conservation, indoor air quality, recycling, and overall environmental risk managment, 161 North Clark is changing its impact on the environment.

Efforts to reduce energy consumption began in 2006 with a complete common area replacement of incandescent lamps with compact fluorescents, electronic ballasts, and motion-sensor activated lighting where possible. In 2007, we improved our efforts by installing time clocks on all multi-tenant corridor lighting, resulting in an annual reduction of 35,500 kWh. We also installed variable frequency drives (VFDs) on the domestic pumps, saving another 90,000 kWh annually. In 2008, we changed our exterior lighting schedule, reducing operating hours and saving approximately 33,000 kWh annually. We also reduced our domestic water temperature 5 degrees, which resulted in an annual reduction of 50,000 kWh. In 2009, we continued our commitment by replacing all 359 lobby lamps with compact fluorescents, resulting in an annual reduction of 70,800 kWh. We also upgraded 23 elevator cabs and 52 elevator lobby hall-call buttons with over 900 light emitting diodes (LEDs). Finally, we installed VFDs on the cooling tower fan motors, reducing consumption by 245,000 kWh annually.
