Developed and managed by Hines, and designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, Williams Tower is one of Hines' most distinctive and recognizable high-rise office towers. Rising 64 stories from the flat Gulf Coast plain, its campanile roof crowned by a revolving searchlight, Williams Tower is a landmark visible for miles in any direction. The building, totaling 1.6 million square feet, features an 88-foot granite entryway arch, an adjacent three-acre park with a Philip Johnson-designed "Waterwall" fountain, and a helipad atop the adjoining parking structure. Williams Tower is also connected by skybridge to the Hines-developed Galleria shopping center. Williams Tower is home to Hines' corporate headquarters. The building was completed in 1983.

The ENERGY STAR for Williams Tower resulted from a comprehensive upgrade of lighting to T8 lamps and electronic ballasts, the installation of a computerized building management system, and the installation and use of multi-zoned air handling units with modulating chilled water valves, allowing zone-by-zone control of building cooling. In addition, hot- and chilled-water flow through cooling tower coils was balanced for maximum efficiency.
