A top to bottom restoration in 1998 transformed this historic former United Shoe Machinery foundry building in Beverly Massachusetts and adjacent power house into 900 Cummings Center. The building overlooks a freshwater pond within the huge Cummings Center business campus.

The long neglected industrial property, located on a brownfield site, was one part of a 10-year, $50-million renovation project. Three floor levels were built in the former hanger-size casting bay and boiler house. An entirely new HVAC system featuring water source heat pumps and central cooling towers and boilers was installed. Cummings replaced hundreds of exterior windows with insulated, tinted glazing systems assembled on site. High efficiency lighting was installed throughout, including a prototype indirect uplight system in cooperation with the electrical utility, National Grid. Cummings worked closely with both National Grid and Keyspan to obtain efficiency incentives for the renovation of the entire 2-million square foot campus. The onsite building management and maintenance crew pays close attention to system operation, helping maintain system efficiency and customer satisfaction.

A large portion of this four-story office building is devoted to medical offices. Just minutes from Beverly Hospital, this thriving Medical Center is home to dozens medical practitioners including doctors, dentists, therapists, and other medical service providers. 900 Cummings Center also features a full-service restaurant, and is home to a major law firm and life science firm. Clients benefit from the many on-campus conveniences such as a fitness center, a U.S. Post Office, two full-service banks, day care, two salons, a dry cleaner, and more.

Just one mile from Rt. 128, "America's Technology Highway," Cummings Center is a 25-minute drive from downtown Boston and Boston's Logan International Airport. Beverly and its environs offer the accessibility and quality of life for which the North Shore is renowned.
