building

The Oklahoma State Capitol building, constructed in 1917, consists of more than 400,000 square feet and received its first major energy upgrade in the early 1990s with the installation of geothermal technology. More recent mechanical system and lighting efficiency projects have contributed greatly to reduced energy consumption in the Capitol. The building features T8 lighting in general office areas. The rotunda is lit with compact fluorescent lighting, and chandeliers use cold cathode bulbs. All parking areas feature LED technology lighting. At night, the dome is lit with LED panel boards, which are controlled by a state-of-the-art software package to maximize efficiency. Water conservation measures were also implemented, including the use of low-flow aerators, urinals, and toilets.

The Department of Central Services is proud to manage one of the most energy-efficient capitol buildings in the nation.
