building

Williamston Free Methodist Church was founded in 1875, and our first building was built in 1908. We built part of our current facility in 1978 and added to and remodeled the remaining structure in 2005. The current church is a 29,226-square-foot, electric and natural gas facility that is served by Detroit Edison and Consumers Power. According to property manager and church member Mr. Brian Derke, the facility benefits from its brick siding and interior design, which help keep the building cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

During remodeling, additional insulation was installed which helps minimize the amount of heat and cold absorbed into the building from the outside. Mr. Derke adds, "Our church leaders are responsible for setting programable theromstats and turning off the HVAC units when not in use. Sensor lights are adjusted to turn on only when the specific rooms are used. Energy efficient bulbs are installed throughout the facility."

The Church has its heating and air-conditioning system serviced regularly with air filters changed every bi-annually to maintain efficiency, which will also extend the life of the equipment--another aspect of stewardship.
