1620 Montgomery Street, historically used as a grain warehouse, has been recognized by EPA for earning the ENERGY STAR. The building’s managers employed several energy-saving techniques in order to attain ENERGY STAR certification. Operable windows were cut into the exterior of the building and numerous operable skylights were added to bring in natural light and fresh air. In the interior, glass walls and doors help distribute light to the interior of the building, which contains light-colored interior furnishings and newly installed T-8 light fixtures. The building’s managers focused on using natural and low-tech solutions to achieve energy savings and to earn the ENERGY STAR.
