Andrews High School was upgraded using federal stimulus money coordinated by the North Carolina State Energy Office.  In addition, all mercury halogen gym lights were replaced in the school gymnasium with T-5 CFL bulbs and fixtures.  The T-5s reduced energy consumption and also increased the safety of students by being instant on/off as compared to the warm-up period for the mercury-halogen fixtures.  Future energy improvements include putting a metal roof on the gymnasium and cafeteria complex and reworking the outlying buildings on campus to become more energy efficient.
