Poston Road Elementary serves approximately 425 students in Kindergarten through fifth grade and is part of the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville, IN. Built in 1957, the district added 12 classrooms, a library, a kitchen, and a multipurpose room in 1962.

The district introduced an energy plan at the start of the 2007-08 school year. Simple guidelines were initiated, such as shutting off unneeded lighting, removing non-essential electrical appliances in classrooms, and shutting off or unplugging all items not in use. Energy management controls and lighting retrofits have also contributed to energy savings.

Three schools in the district earned the ENERGY STAR in 2008, and seven were awarded the ENERGY STAR in 2009, including all three schools that repeated from 2008.  2010 has all seven again labeled and the High School now joins the list.
