The Good Earth Market is housed in a building that was originally constructed in 1956 as the auto body shop for Archie Cochrane Ford's downtown dealership. In 2005-2006 the building was renovated for the Good Earth Market, a local and organic foods cooperative. High Plains Architects and Energy A.D., the mechanical engineer, worked to leverage a tight budget as much as possible by resourcefully using as much of the existing building as possible.

After some minor demolition and the exposing of the mezzanine trusses, a radiant concrete floor was laid, and new partition walls were built for the deli kitchen, receiving area, restrooms, and offices upstairs. A new entrance was added, and garage doors were infilled.

Single pane clerestory windows were replaced with insulated low-E glazing, and new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were installed. Large compressors and some of the refrigerated cases as well as shelving and the checkout stations were salvaged from a derelict grocery store. The refrigeration system is centralized, allowing waste heat to be reclaimed for the domestic hot water system.

The building envelope is being incrementally improved with better insulation, and the few remaining single pane windows are being replaced.
