The students and staff of Mapleton Elementary moved into a newly constructed building in March 2004. From the time of occupancy, they experienced poor comfort--rooms were controlling as far as 8 degrees from setpoint, which caused high energy costs. As a result, the school district began searching for solutions to reduce energy costs while providing a comfortable learning environment for the students.

CCG Automation, Inc. was asked to provide a solution to the comfort and cost issues. After evaluating the facility, CCG offered multiple options to the district to improve their energy efficiency. The Board of Education chose to replace the existing control system in the Elementary School with an Automated Logic WebCTRL system and re-commission all of the mechanical systems.

CCG completed the installation in June 2005 and has been remotely monitoring the building to ensure the system is providing both a comfortable indoor environment and the guaranteed energy savings. During a training session, two rooms were displaying light yellow, which indicates they are above setpoint. Upon review of each space, the rooms were only .1 degree away from setpoint. The district has realized immediate utility savings as a result of the control upgrade. Current utility bills show dramatic reductions in usage and the temperature in the building is controlling within tenths of one degree.

Mapleton Local Schools was able to recover their investment for this project in 15 months due to the energy savings it generated.

• Provided a press release to the school and local news media regarding the building earning the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance.


• Posted a press release on CCG Automation Web site regarding being awarded the ENERGY STAR.
