Meadowood School has provided its local community with an excellent educational environment for the past 35 years. Its district, Red Clay Consolidated School District, has recently completed a comprehensive strategic planning process to ensure that all its schools can continue to provide excellence in education for years to come. With school staff and the community, the district evaluated existing building conditions and future educational needs and determined that renovations were necessary for Meadowood School.

The total investment for the Meadowood School facility enhancements was 2.5 million dollars. Renovation and addition work was concentrated in the following areas: 1) upgraded electrical power wiring, site lighting, and security systems; 2) replacement of existing heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems building-wide; 3) construction of new electrical room and multipurpose shower facility; 4) installation of a new sprinkler system; and 5) replacement of all plumbing fixtures and accessories.

An ENERGY STAR partner since 2007, the district followed ENERGY STAR Guidelines for Energy Management throughout the design and purchasing decisions for these major capital projects. Data compiled through Portfolio Manager help school officials ensure that these improvements maximize the use of their energy resources.

Share the "Statement of Energy Performance: Facility Summary" from Portfolio Manager with the school community.

� Publish articles in the local media and school newsletter, and post information on the school's Web site.

� Provide resources and data to teachers and students for use with class projects.

� Present at faculty, parent, and school board meetings.
