Highlands Elementary School provides a warm, intimate school environment where the staff is committed to meeting the individual needs of each student.  In support of this mission, Red Clay Consolidated School District has worked with the community to complete a comprehensive strategic planning process to evaluate the existing building conditions of all its facilities and plan for future educational needs.  This process has resulted in upgrades at Highlands Elementary School.

The district, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2007, invested 3 million dollars in upgrades and energy efficiency improvements.  The largest portion of these funds were spent on system upgrades in two energy-related areas:  1) repair, replacement and/or correction of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems to improve energy efficiency and air quality and 2) electrical and phone system upgrades, including new wiring and electrical outlets.  In addition, library upgrades and other miscellaneous recommended interior renovations were completed.

Communications:

  • Share the "Statement of Energy Performance: Facility Summary" from ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager with the school community.

  • Publish articles in the local media and school newsletter, and post information on the school's Web site.

  • Provide resources and data to teachers and students for use with class projects.

  • Present at faculty, parent and school board meetings.
  • Testimonial:

Highlands Elementary School is very proud to earn the ENERGY STAR.  Through our concentrated efforts, we have attempted to conserve energy and be an energy-efficient school.  Under the supervision of Joey DiMichele, Chief Custodian, our staff works to save energy and maximize resources.
