After the building was completed in 2006, the Georgetown Exempted Village School District (GEVSD) partnered with ENERGY STAR and began tracking energy use in Portfolio Manger early the following year. In November 2007, the elementary school received a 75 in EPA's energy performance rating system and earned the ENERGY STAR. To date, the school's energy savings exceed $20,000. To successfully implement its energy plan, GEVSD appointed a maintenance director to oversee the operations of the district's buildings. The maintenance director is responsible for monitoring each building's energy use through the BAS, training maintenance staff on energy conservation methods, purchasing ENERGY STAR qualified equipment when possible, and encouraging staff and students to turn off lights and equipment when not in use.
