The Victorville Cement Plant was constructed in 1915 and has continuously produced Portland Cement in Southern California since it was put into operation on Labor Day 1916. After extensive expansions in 1997 and 2001, the CEMEX Victorville plant now has a production design capacity of 3.3 million tons of cement per year.  The plant employs approximately 225 men and women, providing a payroll of more than $17 million to the local community.  2012 is the first year CEMEX Victorville plant earned the ENERGY STAR plant certification.

For the last 96 years, the Victorville plant has continually strived to make a difference in the High Desert area by being the best neighbor it can be through its direct and indirect economic contributions, volunteerism, and commitment to the environment.  It has made investments in technology to reduce energy and environmental impacts.

CEMEX has a company-wide Energy Management Program based on the ENERGY STAR Guidelines for Energy Management.  Under this program, the CEMEX Victorville cement plant has a Site Energy Team which helps the plant progressively apply good energy practices promoted by ENERGY STAR.

Energy conservation efforts of the plant include:

?        Installation of alternative-fuel handling systems to allow the facility to burn up to 25% alternative fuels.

?        Use of a limestone additive system to decrease clinker factor.

?        Improving thermal energy efficiency of kiln line 1 through process optimization.

?        Actively participating in Southern California Edison?s Demand Response Programs power consumption when statewide energy supplies are low.

The plant has also conserved natural resources by consuming 17,300 tons of used tires, 13,200 tons of biosolids and 2,400 tons of wood and agricultural waste.
